Knowledge Centre for Agriculture, Denmark

The Knowledge Centre for Agriculture (Videncentret for Landbrug, VFL) is part of the Danish Agriculture & Food Council which represents the Danish farming and food industry including businesses, trade and farmers’ associations.

The Knowledge Centre for Agriculture, VFL, is a private farmer owned non-profit test and research organization and main supplier of professional knowledge for the agricultural professions with a 2009 budget of 73 million €.  VFL is a mandated body combining implementation of EU regulations on Danish farms with the transfer of knowledge and professional advises to advisers and farmers on a non-profit basis. The total staff at the Knowledge Centre is 490 persons. VFL covers all subjects of relevance for farmers and specialised technical advice is the "core service". The highly specialised senior advisers and experts at the Knowledge Centre act as "advisers to advisers" to their colleagues at the local advisory centres.

VFL operates in a market competing with private companies providing different kind of advisory services to farmers and is the main Danish institution involved in coordinated implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy. The aim is to be the most competitive and dynamic knowledge based agricultural service which benefits the different customers and creates value on the farm. VFL has separate departments on Communication and Web & IT initiating and coordinating the elaboration of ICT and utilising the internet for transferring theoretical knowledge out in practical use.

VFL have 13 years of experience with dissemination of knowledge produced by using the internet.
